Account Deletion
You can permanently delete your nself account and all associated data. The process includes a 30-day grace period for safety.
How It Works
- Go to Settings > Privacy in your dashboard and click "Delete My Account."
- Type your email address to confirm. Your login is disabled immediately.
- You receive an email with a cancellation link. You have 30 days to change your mind.
- After 30 days, all your data is permanently deleted from our systems.
- A final confirmation email is sent when deletion is complete.
What Gets Deleted
- Your user profile and all authentication records
- All memories, conversations, messages, and topics
- All uploaded files and vector embeddings
- All S3-stored objects (including versioned copies)
- Your Stripe customer record
- Audit log entries
What Gets Retained
- Billing records: Anonymized and retained for 7 years as required by tax law. Your email is replaced with a hash, your name is replaced with "Deleted User."
- Deletion log: A record that your account was deleted, containing only a SHA-256 hash of your user ID, timestamps, and table counts. No personally identifiable information.
Shared Content
If you are part of a team, ownership of shared content (shared memories, team plans) is transferred to your team administrator per our Terms of Service (Section 7).
Legal Holds
If your account is subject to a legal hold (subpoena, active dispute), deletion is paused automatically. You are notified and can contact legal@nself.org for details.
Backup Purge
Database backups are retained for 35 days. By day 65 after your deletion request (30-day grace + 35-day backup retention), all backups containing your data have been rotated out.
Cancellation
During the 30-day grace period, click the cancellation link in your email or log in and go to Settings > Privacy. Your account will be reactivated immediately.
